Anand was born and raised in Kenya. He studied electronic engineering in Manchester, but began working with an Internet provider in Kenya in 1996. In 2000 he moved to the Netherlands to work for a Pan-African mobile phone operator, and has been living there ever since. Anand's own business, RouterSpeed, provides the hosting for the ABSP website.

Anand was introduced to Scrabble by a friend when he was 17, playing on and off for years until getting into UK tournament play in Easter 2002. Since then he has become a regular face on the tournament scene, coming across the Channel several times a year by plane or train to play in events from Glasgow to Exeter!
