The players are gathering at Kent's Hill Park conference centre in Milton Keynes ready for the British Matchplay Scrabble Championships. The BMSC features 25 games that take place over the 3 days of the August Bank Holiday weekend, with the champion due to be crowned late on Monday afternoon.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the warm-up event was completed. Colin Northmore won division A with a 10-1, +760 record, ahead of Phil Robertshaw (8-3, +747) and Brian Po (7-4, +408). The top 3 places in division B were determined on spread, with Stewart Brodie in first place with a 9-2, +1073 record, just ahead of Kathy Richland (9-2, +1008) and Nicky Huitson (9-2, +889)
